Palmeiras vs Chapecoense build-up, previous line-ups & injury news:

Palmeiras didn’t get their new Brasileirão campaign off to the best start, losing 1-0 to reigning champions Flamengo last week. But after missing out on Copa Libertadores qualification by a single point last season, Abel Ferreira’s men will be keen to get points on the board and show they can battle it out at the top of the table.

Chapecoense’s start to the season was even worse, falling 3-0 at home to Bragantino. After sealing promotion back to the Brazilian top-flight last season, the Verdão need to adjust quickly or they could face being dragged into a long slog of a relegation battle.

  • Palmeiras (vs CRB): Jailson; Mayke, Luan, Renan*, Victor Luis; Scarpa, Melo, De Paula; Lima, Rony, Willian.

  • Chapecoense (vs ABC): Tiepo; Matheus Ribeiro, Laercio, Derlan, Busanello; Leite, Moises Ribeiro, Lima; Mike, Ramon, Fabinho.

Palmeiras are missing Gabriel Veron, Breno Lopes and Benjamin Kuscevic through injury, while Weverton, Marcos Rocha, Gustavo Gomez, Gabriel Menino and Matias Vina are all on international duty. Danilo and Renan are doubts.

Ezequiel and Joilson are both injured for Chapecoense, while Pedro Perotti, Alan Santos, Leo Gomes and Thiago Dos Santos are doubts.

Player to watch: Luiz Adriano (Palmeiras)

Palmeiras had the second-best defensive record in the Brazilian top-flight last season, with a relative lack of goals the only thing holding them back from Copa Libertadores qualification. With that in mind, Luiz Adriano represents Palestra’s best chance of being an attacking force this season.

The former AC Milan forward netted 17 goals across all competitions last season, including 10 in the Brasileirão, after netting just 10 goals across his first two campaigns back in Brazil.

At 34, Adriano isn’t going to rely on pace, but he is clinical. Get him in front of goal and he’ll find the net, both with his feet and head.
