Justin Holiday was right.
Less than 24 hours after the Pacers guard said he thought his teammate, Chris Duarte, was fouled on a game-tying 3-pointer against the Lakers with 6.5 seconds left in regulation on Wednesday night, the league confirmed it in its Last Two Minute Report on Thursday.
LA won the game 124-116 in overtime at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. However, the report states that Lakers guard Avery Bradley committed a shooting foul on Duarte's clutch 3 in the closing seconds, which tied the game at 112. The rookie should've been awarded a free throw that could've given Indiana the lead, but nothing was called on the floor.
Since the officials didn't blow their whistles, the foul couldn't be reviewed or challenged.
"I saw him get fouled," Holiday said after the game. "So when he went to shoot it, I saw him get hit on the arm and said, 'OK, cool, he got fouled,' so I was like, 'We're good.' And then when he made it I was like, 'Oh!' He made a big shot, made a big play.
"At the end of the game a lot of times refs don't make the calls or keep the whistle and let the game play out, so it is what is."
Instead of having a chance to win the game in regulation, the Pacers were on the receiving end of LeBron James' dominance in overtime. The four-time league MVP, who returned from a one-game suspension, scored eight of his season-high 39 points in the extra period. This content is not available due to your privacy preferences.Update your settings here to see it.
Holiday had 16 points and four 3s, while Duarte totaled 17 points and three 3-pointers.
"I thought I was gonna get fouled because once I felt that contact on top of me, I threw it up," Duarte said. "I thought I was gonna get a foul, but they don't call fouls on rookies, I guess."
