GREECE STEPS UP MEASURES
Greece will close all stores from Wednesday, authorities said Monday, Nektaria Stamouli reports from Athens.
Supermarkets, pharmacies, gas stations and banks will continue operating. Bars and restaurants, as well as beaches and ski resorts, have already shut down. Anyone who arrives from abroad will need to stay in quarantine at home for 14 days.
As of Monday, supermarkets across the country started operating with a restricted number of customers allowed inside. One person will be allowed per 10 square meters, while shoppers must keep a distance of two meters from each other. All customers are given a number to avoid confusion. Supermarkets will operate on Sundays for online deliveries, and restocking will be allowed around the clock.
Authorities put a limit of three antiseptic products per customer to ensure that demand does not outstrip supply.
In the meantime, two villages in northwest Greece near Kozani are in quarantine after an unusual high number of cases (19 in villages with a total population of a few dozens).
Access to and exit from the two villages — Damaskinia and Dragassia — is prohibited and only health professionals and catering services will be allowed in and out. Two of the four fatalities in Greece are from these villages.
PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis and his family have tested negative for coronavirus, government spokesperson Aristotelia Peloni said. Mitsotakis underwent the test as he has been in contact with government spokesman Stelios Petsas who has been in self-isolation since his wife tested positive for the virus.
